DAY 1: ARRIVE IN NAIROBI - Tribe Hotel or Similar
Arrive in Nairobi where you will be greeted at the airport and escorted to your hotel for overnight.
DAY 2: TRAVEL TO SAMBURU - Samburu Sopa Lodge or Similar
After an early breakfast, depart to Samburu National Reserve, a park famous for its rugged beauty, rich wildlife and semi-nomadic Samburu tribesmen. In addition to a plethora of big cats, Samburu offers a "Special 5" unique to the area: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevvy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe, Beisa Oryx and the Somali ostrich.
DAY 3: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
Full day of game viewing in Samburu.
DAY 4: TRAVEL TO SWEETWATERS / OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY - Sweetwaters Tented Camp
After breakfast, depart to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, located on the plains of Mount Kenya, where seeing rhinos is guaranteed. Host to the "Big Five" (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and leopard) and the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, Ol Pejeta is also home to the last three Northern White Rhino on Earth, protected under 24-hour armed guard. It also hosts Kenya's only chimpanzee sanctuary (formed by Jane Goodall), and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.
DAY 5: EXPERIENCE NAIROBI - Tribe Hotel or Similar
After breakfast, depart to Nairobi where you will have a chance to kiss the famed Rothschild giraffes at The Giraffe Centre and enjoy a private one-hour encounter with the elephant orphans at The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Dinner and overnight in Nairobi.
DAY 6: TRAVEL TO EAST TSAVO / ITHUMBA
After an early breakfast, check out and travel to Ithumba in East Tsavo where you will enjoy an intimate, interactive, 2-day experience with the orphaned elephants rescued by David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust as they transition back into the wild. Often ex-orphans who are now totally wild also visit their human family at Ithumba, and it's quite a moving experience to witness the bond these gentle giants have with their keepers, and to come close to and touch a wild elephant. This is guaranteed to be the experience of a lifetime for anyone who loves animals, but for elephant lovers especially. Arrive at Ithumba in time for lunch and to see the elephant's have their afternoon feeding and go back to their stockades for the night. It's time to "unplug" - there's no WIFI here! After a delicious dinner (the chef at Sheldrick prepares the most fabulous food!), enjoy the peace and quiet of Ithumba and a good night's sleep.
DAY 7: EAST TSAVO / ITHUMBA
The day at Ithumba is very structured. Arise at 5:30am to witness the elephants' 6am feeding. Return to camp at 8am to shower and enjoy breakfast. If the Kenyan Wildlife Service deems it safe, there is time for a short, guided nature walk until 11am when the elephants have their mudbath. Interacting with the orphans as they play in the water and take their "mud bath" will be in experience you'll remember always. Lunch is served from 1-2 pm. From 2-4:30, you may enjoy a game drive around Ithumba, or rest at the camp. At 5pm, watch the elephants get their bedtime milk, play, and go back to their stockades for the night. Then enjoy another fantastic dinner and bed.
DAY 8: TRAVEL TO WEST TSAVO - Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge or Similar
Arise at 5:30am to watch the elephant's 6am feeding. This will be your last encounter with the elephants; checkout is after breakfast at 9:00am. Then, depart on a leisurely game drive to West Tsavo. Tsavo National Park as a whole consists of 10 million acres of pure wilderness, incorporating savannah, mountain ranges and hills, acacia forests, and an extensive river system. It's remote and ideal for those who enjoy solitude and a chance to explore the wilderness without encountering other tourists. Along the way, you'll hope to see Tsavo's famous "red elephants" along with big cats, rhinos, buffalo, hippos, and -- if you are very lucky -- wild dogs.
DAY 9: TRAVEL TO AMBOSELI - Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge or Similar
After breakfast, depart to Amboseli National Park. Located southeast of Nairobi, Amboseli is an area of low, "scrubby" vegetation and open grassy plains, all of which makes for easy game viewing. It's best known for its large herds of elephants and stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain. During game drives, you are guaranteed to see elephants, but you may also see lions, hippos, zebras, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, leopart, spotted hyena, giraffe, cheetah, and over 300 kinds of birds. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive.
DAY 10: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Full day of game viewing in Amboseli.
DAY 11: TRAVEL TO NAIVASHA - Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort or Similar
Following breakfast and check out, depart to Lake Naivasha, the highest of the Rift Valley lakes lush with water birds and hippos. Upon arrival, you will be escorted by boat to Crescent Island, an animal and bird sanctuary where you can enjoy a gentle walk mingling up-close with zebras, giraffes and the other animals of the sanctuary. It's the perfect way to revitalize between long days of game drives.
DAY 12: TRAVEL TO MASAI MARA - Ashnil Tented Camp or Similar
Depart after breakfast for the unparalleled beauty of Masai Mara where you will enjoy an afternoon game drive. Famed for its large population of black-maned Masai lions, African leopards and Tanzanian cheetahs, as well as the Great Migration, Nature's grand spectacle of zebra and wildebeest journeying to and from the Serengeti in search of fresh grasses every year from July to October.
DAYS 13-14: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Spend full days exploring the rolling hills and plains of the Mara for a chance to spot lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, and—if you're lucky—a black rhino. Those traveling in July and August can expect to experience The Great Migration. Enjoy extras like a Hot Air Balloon Ride over the plains, a Sundowner, or an Evening Game Drive. We strive to fulfill your every desire to make this the trip of your lifetime!
